Midlothian is moving towards online booking and payments for our adult education classes.
To achieve this we will be using the Eventbrite system, which is a worldwide platform with a great reputation for being able to manage tickets for large and complex events.
A few classes are testing the system right now, but almost all of our own classes will be going live to Eventbrite in August/September this year.
Here are a few Frequenly Asked Questions about the classes and bookings:
How can I make sure I know about the classes and I don’t miss a space because the class is already sold out?
Everyone who currently attends a class will be sent either a paper copy or a link to an electronic copy of the full programme once it becomes available in July. We will circulate the programme widely through libraries, LLE centres and other venues. The best way to ensure that you get the information as soon as it comes out is to make sure that we have your email address and that you have ‘liked’ our Facebook page, ‘Followed’ our Twitter account or subscribed to this WordPress blog.
Do I need to book Online?
No. The existing booking system will still be in place for anyone who does not have access to the internet or is reluctant to pay by card online. However, our staff will be available in libraries and other centres to help you pay online should you wish .
Can I reserve a place in advance?
No. To create a fair system, all classes will start from a blank sheet. Booking will start in late August – we will circulate the time and date in good time to all known contacts, and the date will be publicised in the brochure. If you book online on the first day you are likely to get a space, but there is no way to know if the online booking process will attract a large new audience for the classes. Paper booking forms will be processed in the order they are received, starting at the same time and date as the electronic bookings go live.
Is Eventbrite safe?
If you are at all worried about digital safety or spending money online – why not come to one of our computer classes? However, Eventbrite is a large and well established system that has handled millions of pounds worth of transactions. No system is foolproof, but using an online system such as Eventbrite is at least as safe as paying by card in a shop/restaurant. For information on how to check if any payment system is as secure as it should be, see this page https://www.getsafeonline.org/shopping-banking/online-payments/
How do I use Eventbrite?
Although our events will not be live until the Summer, you can look at Eventbrite now https://www.eventbrite.com/. If you register and give Eventbrite your postcode, you will see events coming up soon that you might want to book on to. You can download an Eventbrite app for your phone/tablet https://www.eventbrite.com/eventbriteapp/ making it even easier to book on classes when we go live.
